This one's simple. I came up with a problem whilst creating a hit counter for a website I was working on. I had a PHP script that would increment the number in count.txt when someone hit the URL, then redirected to the Flash page, and the hit counter would read the count.txt file and display the number. This code is actually really versatile for any type of text you would like to use. First, the code is:
counter = new XML();
counter.onData = function(data) {
data = data.split("\r\n").join("\r");
counterdisp = data;
};
counter.load("count.txt");
Lets start with the first line:
//creates the variable counter, as a new XML function
counter = new XML();
//when data is passed to counter, make a function data
counter.onData = function(data) {
/*take the contents of data and split it at \r\n (which is how Flash spaces the actual spaces in a txt file, for compatibility with *nix systems) and then joins them with just a single carriage return */
data = data.split("\r\n").join("\r");
//take the contents of data and apply them to the dynamic text box with the variable of counterdisp
counterdisp = data;
};
//load the appropriate text file, in this case, count.txt
counter.load("count.txt");
And thats all there is to it! change count.txt to the filename you're using, counterdisp to the VARIABLE NAME of the dynamic text box you want to post the txt file to (make sure it's not embedded in any MC's, unless you put the code in the MC) You might want to change the variable 'counter' to whatever you want, just make sure you update the rest appropriately.
