Controlling a clip by the time of day Updated!

This is a simple tutorial to control the appearance of a clip using the local time.
It's using only the hours but you can extend it using the minutes or even the seconds if you want.

Elements:

Just one. A 24frame stoped movie clip that changes its transparency.

In frame 1 the Alpha is 100% and in frame 12 it's 0%. In frame 24 it's 92%.
There is a stop action in frame 1, allthough it's not really necessary.

Actions:
We place our clip in the stage.
Now we need a piece of code to get the time and move our clip at the right frame.
So we attach the following code to our clip:

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
daynight = new Date();
dayframe = daynight.getHours()+1;
this.gotoAndStop(dayframe);
}

At first we created a date object called "daynight".
Then we created a variable called "dayframe" that gets its value from the getHours method.
This variable will give its value to the gotoAndStop action to move our clip
to the according frame.
That means if our time is 2:30 p.m. our variable will be 14. But if our time is 12:15 a.m.
it will be 0. Since there is no 0 frame in our clip we add 1 to make it work right.
Now if the time is 2:30 p.m. the clip will go and stop to frame 15.
Simple isn't it?

If you don't wish continous update of the action, you can place the code in onload event.

You can use the minutes also by creating a 1440 frame clip.
In this case the dayframe will have the following value:

dayframe=(daynight.getHours()*60)+(daynight.getMinutes())+1;

Use your creativity on how else you can affect the apperarence of the clip and...
Enjoy :)
