Now you have two shapes.
Let's start with the shadow. Select one of the shapes, if none is already selected.
Go to Modify > Shape > Soften fill edges...
I choose
Distance: 9 px
Number of steps: 11
Direction: Inset

This shape is now really many different shapes. When you've just finished the softening, all the new shapes are selected.
Convert them to a symbol:
Insert > Convert to Symbol... (F8).
I name mine "shadow".
Now it's in your library, and you can delete the instance from the stage. (The original remains in the library.)
