Getting Started
To begin create a new movie and give it the following properites, 400px width, 400px height and frame rate 44. Next in the main movie on the lowest level, import your (400px by 400px) image to be magnified, scale it 50% and aligned to the center of the page.
Above that layer, on the new layer, draw a circular shape, select it and converted into a movie clip by pressing F8. Name the movie clip outline. Don't forget to name the instance too! (right clicked on the movie clip, choose properties, select the Definition tab then in Instance Name box named it outline).
Now right click the movie clip again, this time choose "edit in place" from the context menu. This is movie clip that will contain: mask and masked layers. Name the current layer "shape" because it contains shape of the magnifier, then add a new layer below the current layer and named it bigpic.
From the current movie library (Ctrl+L) drag and drop the same image you imported in the main movie. But this time keep the original size (100%) and aligned it to the center of the page. Next select the picture and press F8 (Insert > Convert to Symbol) to convert it to a movie clip called bigpic. It's important to have it as movie clip, because we will manipulate that clip later. Do not forget to name it in Instance Name box (as you did with the previous clip outline).
