Then we are going to add a keyframe in frame 2 of this clip and we are also going to add another layer for "..You guessed it!" ACTIONS!!! In the first key frame of your actions we're going to add these actions: duplicateMovieClip(_root.smoke.puff, puff+c, c); setProperty(_root.smoke.puff, _rotation, random(6));it should look like this.:
the duplicateMovieclip is used in conjunction with our little animation to create a "trail" effect" "TRIPPY!!"...anyway..The set property portion sets the rotation of our object to a random point out of 6 degrees(creates a flicker effect)Also you can experiment with the rotation if you set it to random(360) you can also get a cool starburst effect out of this. Now on to frame 2 this frame's actions are as
follows:::
c = c+1;
if (c>20) {
c = 0;
}
gotoAndPlay(1);
First we set the variable of c=c+1 this will tell MC what level the duplicated clips will appear. Also it will tell it to give the clip a new name each time in conjunction with the duplicateMovieclip
action. The gotoAndPlay(1) just loops back to repeat the actions creating the trail effect.
Now we are going back to our main timeline(scene 1) and we are going to have 2 layers here as well. One for actions one for movie clips. On layer 1 frame 1 drag an instance of the clip we just made (the one with the duplicate clip actions) on to the stage and we will give this
one an instance name of "smoke"
this is where that _root.smoke.puff comes in it's just for the duplicate action to find the correct path to follow. Also it is used for our action in frame 1 layer 2 on our main timeline, which looks like this
startDrag(_root.smoke.puff, true);
Now, you can leave this out if you want to it's just a simple drag command that I think looks cool but if you want a stationary flame leave it out. NOW the moment you've all been waiting for!
Hit ctrl+enter on your keyboard to test the movie and move around your mouse. BAM you just made a simple particle system that you can apply in many different ways.
