If there is one thing I've harped on for the past two years, it's that contracts should always be used in business dealings. It doesn't matter if you're a Fortune 500 company or a freelancer working out of his basement - don't do any business without a contract.

While this is easy to preach, the average person has trouble writing a contract. Questions like "What should it include?" and "How do I prevent from getting myself screwed with my own words?" come to one's mind. To help those who are new to the world of legalities, I've offered a free, simple contract that covers the basics. While this is helpful for those starting out, seasoned entrepreneurs are going to need more in-depth contracts covering a vast amount of areas. Answering this call is Proposal Kit's Contract Pack.

The Contract Pack is fully loaded with 33 different contracts covering areas such as non-disclosure agreements, payment terms, maintenance agreements, change request forms, copyright transfers, subcontractor agreements, and plenty more. These contracts cover virtually every legal aspect of the web development industry. The contracts are in Word format and built to be filled in easily using Word's mail merge feature.

Contracts that make sense
Upon my search for a decent contract, my problem was that all the contracts I found were full of confusing legal jargon that only made sense to lawyers trying to get out of responsibility. Proposal Kit's contracts make sense and are in plain English. I browsed through them trying to find holes, but they were all solid.

A sample of this in action is the first paragraph of the Non-disclosure agreement:

I agree that the information I am requesting from "Company" is confidential, proprietary and may contain trade secrets. I understand that it will be provided in confidence. I agree not to disclose this information to any third parties and that my obligation of confidentiality shall extend for a period of three (3) years from the date of disclosure by "Company".

While people trying to write their own version of a non-disclosure agreement would struggle to find a professional way of saying "I want tell anybody your password", this contract spells it out perfectly.

Contract Pack has United States, Canada, and Great Britain versions of its templates. Another great part is since the contracts are in Word format, users have the option to change the text as they see fit.

Contract Pack runs for $97.00 and is worth every cent. The amount of time, headaches, and legal problems this pack of contracts will save a company make the $97.00 price tag seem minimal. Contact Pack can be bought along with the Proposal Kit bundle for $197.00. Proposal Kit contains Contract Pack, Proposal Pack, Estimate Pack, Web Plan Kit, and a configuration script used for creating mail merge files online. All packs and bundles are available on Proposal Kit's site.

Again, whatever kind of business you do, don't do business without a contract.
