Welcome to Flash 5 Programming for Designers Series for Flash 5. If you're here it means you have no programming background and you would like to start actionscripting. If you have Flash 4 then you are in the wrong place, we have that tutorial here.

In this tutorial we will be going through a lot of stuff and will aim to introduce you to the basic pillars of geekdom - Data Types, Variables, Expressions, Operators, Functions and of course the great new addition, Objects. (there are more, but we're here to keep it simple)

In this series the following topics will be addressed, these are best read in order:

  1. Data Types
  2. Variables
  3. Expressions
  4. Numeric Operators
  5. String Operators
  6. Logical Operators
  7. Precedence and Associativity
  8. Predefined Functions
  9. The Movie Explorer
  10. Putting it all together

Let's start by getting our feet wet. Now before to go to the next page, prepare yourself, you will be looking at some code. This isn't to shock you, it's just to give you an idea of what we're trying to do here...

» Description: Hmm... what to say about this one? It's reminiscent of the closing notes of the opening music from the Three Stooges done in a church organ style with a closing cymbal crash. I'll give this one away gratis, but feel free to check out my free loops and potential upcoming license-mandated ones over in the respective part of Flashkit.
