Making walls and hotspots using hitTest

Part 1 - Making the character move
Ok, this part of the tutorial will explain how to make the character move using the arrowkeys.
First, we'll start with making the character. In this tutorial i've used a circle, but it can be watever you want. Anyway, make your character (Not too big!). Make it an MC (Movie Clip) by pressing F8. Give it the instance name "char".
Kay, now you've got your character. Now you just need to add this code to make it move:
onClipEvent(load) {
speed=5;
}
onClipEvent(enterFrame) {
if (Key.isDown(Key.UP)) {
this._y -=speed;
}
if (Key.isDown(Key.DOWN)) {
this._y +=speed;
}
if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {
this._x -=speed;
}
if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) {
this._x +=speed;
}
}
But what does the code do?
onClipEvent(load) {
speed=5;
}
This part sets the speed to 5.
if (Key.isDown(Key.UP)) {
this._y -=speed;
}
This makes the character move up when the key UP is pressed.
...And the rest isn't very hard to figure out...
Now press CTRL + ENTER to test your game. But... Hey, you can move the character out of the screen! That doesn't look very good. Move on to the next page!
