Just for show, I made a little movie clip that displays the word "HIT". It lives inside the ship object. It is called "hitdisplay". But you will recognise the possibility for a lot more effect here. Now that you've mastered the laser, it's time to add the scenery in the next tutorial in the Arcade series, Terrain Scrolling.
