Hi! This tutorial will show you how to make a very simple shooting game in Flash 8.

I am writing this tutorial because I found it extremely hard to find a good tutorial online on how to make a simple shooting type game. The end product will have an animated sprite on the screen, a pointer that is in the form of a sighter, and a score box that adds one point whenever you "shoot" (click on) the animated sprite. Let's start by creating the symbols that we need. Click Insert>New Symbol or press Ctrl+F8 to make a new symbol. The symbols you will need to create are listed below:

Sprite - Movie Clip - The picture of the enemy. Sight - Movie Clip - The sight that replaces the mouse pointer. HitArea - Button - The area the enemy can be hit. Enemy - Movie Clip - Contains the enemy and the scorebox. Optional: EnemyHit - Movie Clip - The picture of the enemy when it gets hit.

I will explain what to do with these in their own sections.

Luke Knepper only had two weeks of Flash experience when this tutorial was written, and figured most of it out through little bits and pieces from internet articles and the built in tutorial. His site, zazeran.com, is an online archive of games and programs and features Flash games.
