Creating a Flash High Score List
One of the nicest things to put in a Flash game, is a top score list; a list of the top 10 players in a game, for example, adds a level of competition between players, and an aspect of interactivity to the gameserver. This tutorial uses a simple PHP script to maintain score tables (as many as you want) for different games.
Setting it up.
The most important file in all this is a script called scores.php. This file is found included with this tutorial's zip file. In order for this to work, you will need your site to be hosted on a webserver/webhost that has PHP4 active. If you're not sure, call your host and ask.
- Copy scores.php into your website's root directory - the folder that contains all your HTML files.
- From that location, create a new folder called "scores".
- Make sure that the permissions on that folder are set to full read, write and execute. In WS_FTP you simply right-click on the directory name after you've created it, and choose chmod. (CHMOD 777 - see your webhost for more information on this)
That's all you need to get started.
