In the text file, if you wanted to set your bar1 variable to the value of 56, the variable bar2 to value of 73, and bar3 to the value of 47. Your text file, would be contain the following:

bar1=56&bar2=73&bar3=47

Now when Flash 4 loads the variables into _level0 (your main movie timeline). The bar1, bar2, and bar3 variables will be assigned the appropriate values.

I have included a working example of text integration with the flash graph. The text file "data.txt" has the following text:

bar1=36&bar2=45&bar3=100&bar4=09&bar5=16&bar6=25&bar7=38&bar8=45&bar9=100&bar10=69&
bar11=88&bar12=5&bar13=36&bar14=45&bar15=100&bar16=09&bar17=98&bar18=96&bar19=90&
bar8=80&bar20=75&bar21=69&bar22=65&bar23=5&bar24=60&bar25=45&bar26=55&bar27=50&
bar28=16&eof=1

When loading into the .SWF file "datagraph.swf" this is the end result:
