| Many a people have asked me how I made the flash menu on the main sections of my site. Enough people that I decided that there was reasonable intrest in a tutorial about it, so here it is. I'm a horrible, inarticulate writer so don't give me too much grief about how hard it is to understand. I've tried to make it as visual as possible for you, but there are some things which must just be explained instead of shown, so there may be some unclear points. In that case, just drop me an e-mail and I'll try to clear things up : ) |

Create
a movie clip titled 'slider' which you want to be dragged with the mouse
to highlight the selected object. Make sure that it is completely centered
in the movie clip. Then drag an instance of it onto the stage and give
it the instance name 'drag'. |
Next,
create a movie clip with all of the buttons, pictures, whatever, in it.
Again, make sure that it is completely centered within the clip. Call
it mover, and add one to the stage with an instance name slider. Make
sure that 'slider' and 'drag' are on the same layer. |
Create
a new layer, called actions, and on the first frame add these actions
shown in the screenshot (comments, preceded by '//', can be omitted). |
On
the second frame, create a keyframe and add these actions shown in this
screenshot. |
Make
sure everything is aligned and there you have it : ) Download source [here]
Enjoy and if you have any questions please let me know! Also, do not just
take the source and use it as is. Change it, customize it, make it your
own. It's much better that way! In the final product there are also a
few cool variations submitted by gradiation. To view the final product,
click on the thumbnail to the right. |
