This one is intended for programmers only. Vectors have always been popular with most of us. Here I present the Flash MX 2004 custom Class for Vectors. If you have used Vectors in Java, well, you just need to instantiate your vector. Almost all the properties are same as in Java.
This tutorial would also fimiliarize you with making your own packages. The technique is almost similar to Java (again). Here is how its done!
/* Installing the wwinc.util Package -----------------------------------*/
Before using the Vector class, please make sure you download and unzip the 'wwinc.zip' in the Classes folder under Flash MX 2004 installation directory, i.e.:
Flash MX 2004\en\First Run\Classes\wwinc\util\Vector.as
Your Vector.as file should be in the exact path as show above or it won't work.
/* Using the Vector Class ------------------------*/
Now, in your Flash Movie, you just have to import the Vector Class and its ready to be used in any of your Flash MX projects.
/*Importing the Vector Class in your Flash Movie -----------------------------------------------*/
import wwinc.util.Vector;
/*Instantiate your vector: v ---------------------------*/
var v:Vector = new Vector(10); //creates a vector with ten slots
/*Add an element to your vector ------------------------------*/
v.addElement("first element"); v.addElement("second element");
/*Trace vectors total capacity -----------------------------*/
trace("Vectors capacity: "+v.getCapacity());
/*Use getFirstElement to pop your first element -----------------------------------------------*/
trace("First element: "+v.getFirstElement());
/*Trace the second element -------------------------*/
trace("Second element: "+v.getElementAt(1));
/* Trace the current size being used by Vector Instance ------------------------------------------------------*/
trace("Current Size: "+v.getSize());
