The code:
Flash setup:
- first I made a basic movie, with two input variables (called myX and myY), I have a background grid to help you see where the object is positioned. And finally one button that contains the code. That's all, nothing more nothing less
The syntax:
on (release) {
_root.createEmptyMovieClip( "triangle", 1 );
with ( _root.triangle )
{
lineStyle( 5, 0xff00ff, 100 );
moveTo( myX, myY );
lineTo( 300,300 );
lineTo( 100, 300 );
lineTo( 200, 200 );
}
}
the explanation:
with the 'createEmptyMovieClip' method I'm making a new instance called "triangle"
that will be used as a container for the drawing I'm about to script.
Then I address the Triangle- instance and I :
- define the lineStyle with which I 'll draw (thickness = 5, color of the line,
and 100% transparency value)
- using the 'MoveTo' method I indicate where the cursor goes to start drawing.
Just imagine yourself drawing and the steps you take. It's that intuitive. I
made my example dynamic. The values you enter for myX and myY are used to draw
everything when you hit the button.
- and finally the 'lineTo' method draws a line to the coordinates you pass.
I need 3 lines to create a triangle, so I use the method 3 times. Just look
at the coordinates and the grid that I drew behind it, and things will be clear
straight away.
play around with the example on the next page.
