Creating the sound file

Best way I know to create sound in your movie is to put your sound in its own flash file and use "Tell Target" (Flash4) or "with" (Flash 5) statements to start and stop the music when your button (On/Off) is pressed.

Create a new flash file - call it "sound.fla"
On your main timeline:

  • Click File>Import and import your sound file into Flash.
  • Put a blank keyframe in Frame 1 and label it "Music Stop" and put a stop action in that frame.
  • Press F7 in Frame 5.
  • Label Frame 5 "Music Start".
  • Now press F8 to create a new instance.
  • Select Movie Clip as the instance type and call it something appropriate to your song.

Flash will take you to the timeline of the new MC you just created:

  • Click on Frame 1 and bring up the frame properties dialog.
  • Select the sound tab, click the drop down menu and select your imported sound from the list.
  • I usually select 999 for the loops entry.
  • You can play with the other options if you like.
  • CLick Scene 1 to get out of the MC and back to your main timeline.

From your main timeline:

  • Select Window>Library.
  • Find your new MC in the list.
  • Drag an instance of your MC onto the stage in Frame 5.
  • Save, publish, and exit the file.
