..Create & Edit Layers

Apply the "Alpha Fade" effect to the symbol on the lower the layer. After you have done this copy the single frame containing the faded symbol (CTRL-C).

Paste the symbol in place on the remaining 5 layers below that are currently blank.

At this point the stage should look like there is only one symbol there since all of the symbols are perfectly aligned. Aligning the symbols is crucial to creating the effect.

You now need to stager the motion of the symbol within the main timeline. Offset each new symbol by 1 frame in the main timeline.

After you have completed these steps, you're timeline should look like the example shown in the screenshot clip below.
