Create & Edit Layers
Now return to Scene1 by clicking on the "Scene1" text located in the top left of the main program window. A screenshot clip is shown below.

Create 7 blank layers in the main timeline. This is a pretty basic example, so you can leave them with the default names.
Drag and drop the "star_spike" movie symbol from the library onto the stage of layer 7. Layer 7 should be the one at the top.
Re-size the symbol so that it fits well in the stage.
Align the symbol so that it is located it the absolute middle of the stage.
After you have set the size and location of the symbol, you should highlight the single frame that it resides in. Press CTRL-C (Windows) to copy the symbol onto the clipboard. Highlight layer the first layer under the one that you just copied the symbol form and paste the symbol into the frame using the "Paste in place" feature.
After you have two symbols directly on top of each other. You now need to apply the Alpha effect to the lower symbol. Make sure that the lower symbol is selected/highlighted in the stage. From the menu bar in the top right of the main program window, choose the "Window" tab. You now need to display the "Effect" palette in order to apply the effect. Find the panel and select it in the tree as shown below.
