Welcome to the IM Model. Its aim is to graphically represent the working parts of a flash movie by only displaying the instances, objects and key variables respective the context of the movie's timelines. It application to the real world would be better net-based tutorials for a start but also this could be used in documenting movies or planning them.
This idea has come about through the realisation that an english text tutorial and/or flash source code may be sufficient to teach most but some will have trouble conceptualising the movie's 'big picture'. However, an english text tutorial, the source code and a 'big picture blueprint' would provide a better combination for learning. (in theory!)
This idea of Instance Modelling is taking an everyday way of informal planning and design and attempting to formalise it and standardise it for the purposes of better communication. The method of IM Blueprinting is an experimental idea but it is an attempt to overcome the shortcomings of the english language by using symbols and layout to express information.
Flashkit needs your feedback! When formulating your feedback, if you could take into consideration these questions it would be greatly appreciated.
- Can you easily identify the timelines and the objects on them?
- If english is not your first language. Can you make sense of the diagram?
- Can you tell the difference between a Movie and a Button?
- Do you think that artwork should be included?
- When used in conjuction with the ticker tutorial and the source code, how easy do you think it would be to learn how the 'ticker' works?
- Any other feedback?
