This movie (Flash 5 only) demonstrates my number-formatting function. You can enter any number (or any string, in fact) in the field labeled 'number' and press the arrow button to have dots inserted at three-digit intervals. You can also change the separator from a dot to any other character/string you want via the 'separator' field.Unfortunately, the function doesn't seem to work for numbers with more than 21 digits. Not that formatting a 21-digit number will make it a lot easier to read...Because the formatting is done via a function, it can be used in virtually any Flash 5 movie that needs formatting of numbers. It doesn't have to be called by a button, and can be run in the background so the user only sees the neatly formatted result. The only thing you need to feed the function is a number to format(duh!) and a seperator character/string to use. It'll return a formatted number. Make sure you've done all calculations you need to do before you format the number, since the formatted number is just a string and Flash will do weird things if you try to divide/multiply/whatever it.
