Project Description:DontTellMyParents.org is part of a local campaign being run by Straight Forward, a teen advocacy group, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The site encourages better communication between parents and teens in regards to the subject of teen sex. Being such a highly controversial issue, the site does not take any firm stances about how parents should talk to their teens, but works to educate them on how to communicate better. The site uses videos from the campaign along with additional information that alerts parents to many of the shocking but true things teens are doing. It also provides both teens and parents useful information on the subject of teen sex.Business Objective:The main objective of this project was to bring awareness to the community about the dangers and prevalence of underage and unprotected sex. The site connected the entire mixed media campaign and was a way for community members to dive into the issue deeper by finding my information.Technical Challenge:We needed to make the site come alive. It had to be fun and interactive, but most of all it had to convey the overall theme and message of the mixed media campaign. Flash gave us the ability to streamline the users experience without having to break it up into pages. We also used the new video capabilities within Flash to stream FLV video files to the user without the use of a streaming server.Benefits:The site has successfully conveyed the campaigns message to the community. The 2004 version of the site has already surpassed the 2003 version of the site in traffic after only seven weeks. The site, along with the rest of the campaign, was also the subject of local and national media attention.
