This project was a ground-up redesign of Chipotle?s web presence, accomplished in Flash MX as a development platform and exported as Flash 5 to accommodate a wider audience (at Chipotle?s request). The site feels very Chipotle: clean white space, no borders and style of humor that is in-line with their highly successful marketing campaign. We?ve progressed the delivery of their intelligent and unconventional humor from print, outdoor and radio into a new realm of movement through Flash animation.The purpose of the new Chipotle Website is to correctly project the unique style and playful, tongue-in-cheek humor of the Chipotle brand and to deliver useful, client updateable content while providing immersive methods of feedback and business development tools. The overall goal is to transmit the correct branding message to their current user base to increase content retention, traffic, email subscriptions and feedback.Our first challenge was to restrain ourselves from utilizing the new tools in Flash MX. However, the new interface did make the development process run faster and more smoothly. Next, we had to find a unique way to introduce each section that was somehow consistent with the last and worthy of the Chipotle name. Chipotle also requested a navigation that was functional and easy to use, yet hidden and unique. Finally, we had to design sound around animation that adds impact and a mood of levity to the site. And, of course, maintain low file sizes.Chipotle?s marketing initiatives were solidified into one consistent and cohesive unit. The actual increase in email submissions and traffic are impossible to quantify until after its unveiling Tuesday morning (July 9th), but an increase of 300- 500% is a reasonable projection for the first month. The feedback thus far is that this site is destined to be a pop-culture hit with a cult-like following. Chipotle headquarters agrees and has showered us with free burritos.
