cool

Inspired by a trip to Mexico City. The official signage of the Mexico City subway uses a peculiar adaptation of the classic font Eurostile, designed by Aldo Novarese. The capital E was most unusual. The overall feel was of a past vision of the future, with a distinctively Mexican touch. (The squared circle, or rounded square, is very common in both old and new Mexican design.) I began with a ripoff version of Eurostile (also known as Microgramma), adjusted it to the proper width and weight, then drew the observed characters as well as a few other variants of my own invention in the retro-future style. Using this font in all-caps mode presents the best approximation of the original signage. Includes caps, punctuation, numbers, and international characters.

He crept the darkness of the Australian outback searching for babes to feed on. Half man, half dingo the Mandingo was greatly feared by the inhabitants of the outback man and dingo alike.

Ray needs all the mail he can get.

Not many people can say they have had the distinction of having a biting louse and a butterfly named after them.

My digital interpretation of a classic font of the same name. I've seen it in several sources (Dan X. Solo books and Alphabets & other signs by Rothenstein and Gooding), always with this name, but not in digital. A beautiful and graceful italic font, apparently without a matching roman, Galathea was named for Pygmalion's mythical female creation. Because of the steep incline of the letters, a LOT of kerning is employed to make them fit together neatly. If the program you're using doesn't support kerning, you will get very unlovely spacing. (I'm including both TrueType and Type 1 versions which may help in this regard.)Includes upper and lowercase, numbers, punctuation and international characters. Works well paired with a Garamond

Like the "Dodger" font, but this closes the large space after short letters (i,l, etc.)

Cool logo design

was extrapolated from the great MAD magazine logo, of course! I loved MAD when I was a kid and remember drawing the 3 letters of the title and imagining what the others would look like. I used a 70s issue of the magazine and looked at a lot of other woodtype--Western and circus--fonts for ideas. It is not my intention to infringe on any trademarks or copyrights belonging to the magazine. This is in hommage, not a rip-off. So don't use this to make your own MAD magazine or related paraphernalia; use it to write other stuff with! In my version, the upper and lower case are the same. The uppercase letters are kerned real close, like the magazine logo, the lowercase are not. Includes numbers, punctuation, and accented characters. Is yet another comic-book style font. Can be bolded or italicized effectively.
