Have a question for James?

Interview

Where are you from?
The Royal County of Berkshire in the United Kingdom

Where did you grow up?
Mostly in my bathing suit area.

What are your pastimes and interests?
Beer, girls and rollercoasters.

What's your favorite saying or cliché?
Never rub another man's rhubarb.

What's your favorite movie?
The Cannonball Run

What's your favorite cocktail?
Long Island Ice Tea

When did you first get involved with flash?
December '96

What is your view of the current use of flash?
I see a trend moving towards more discreet experiences, rather than the goofy "high impact" multimedia for which Flash was somewhat originally intended. Also, I see it moving away from it's roots as an animation tool, which really bugs me.

What do you feel is advancing the use of flash the most?
WDDG on the design front. Pepworks on the "You can't do that in flash" front.

Who has been your greatest inspiration?
Bill Watterson, Jeff Smith, Alan Moore, Shigeru Miyamoto. Creators with huge amounts of integrity.

Where do you see the future of flash?
I see it splitting into broadband-centric and mobile-device versions.

What advice would you give to budding flashers?
Good advice is: Don't try to put every single idea you get straight into your work. Rather, stay focussed on what your work means, feels and looks like.

What can FK Singapore 2001 attendees expect from you?
I'm gonna break it down, baby.

Any closing words?
I'm covered in beeeees!!
