The idea of the challenge is to create visually stimulating work based on a monthly theme set by the Arena moderators (myself, Aversion and Jamble). It is open to anyone who wishes to enter and your work will be linked to in the Flashkit monthly newsletter which goes out to over 400,000 people, a good bit of publicity for sure! It's great practice and we hope will be a little fun for those who are struggling to think of a theme for their work!
Here we go then:
The Rules
* 400*750 image size yep, odd size... work with it!
* no image larger than 100k filesize
* .gif's, .png's and .jpg's allowed - please respect filesizes
* images can be rotated - portrait or landscape
* they must be based on the monthly theme set by the moderators
* each game will last approximately 1 month
On to the game without further ado...
The Theme for April 2003
March was a little undersubscibed so hopefully the more "current affairs" theme this month will interest and stimulate those design genes in you! Submissions should be based on this theme:
WAR AND PEACE
A little caveat here though, please don't use this as an excuse to post images that you normally wouldn't be allowed to post. I mean things like abused people, POW's and dead bodies etc. While the subject is a current affairs one and a delicate one as well, please also view this as a design challenge. War and Peace does not necessarily mean tanks and guns etc, from a design point of view it could be about colour schemes working in harmony, the animal kingdom, weather etc. Many other things are possible and extra marks will be given for original interpretation of the theme
Good luck everyone, we'll judge the entries at the end of April
We don't have to confine it to the current war i'm guessing. If I wanted to do a piece depicting the American Civil War or War on Drugs that would be cool to I assume. Is that correct?

no Mat, not just the current war, in fact I'd actively encourage people to be more creative than using the current war and looking for different themes (like the war on drugs) like those I mentioned in the initial post, it doesn't have to be a war per se (ie. tanks and guns) or peace (hippies and flowers ) but could be a clash of colours or design principles etc.
Be as creative as possible and see how you can use the war and peace theme
