I saw this GREAT video this past weekend. It discussed the finer points of the two most popular theories of how the universe began, Creation Vs. Big Bang Theory

The most profound thing that I noticed was Age of the Earth Debate. Most scientists believe that the earth is about 15 billion year old. Most Christians believe that the Earth is 6000 years old. Notice the extreme difference. Christians say that the Earth was created in 6 days, and God rested on the 7th. Scientists say that the entire universe was created in a split second, named The Big Bang.

The video came up with some VERY good points about these ideas. The word in the Hebrew used in Genesis for day can also be used to express a certain period of time. This is a comprimise of the two beliefs, and I think it is a much better judgement of how the Earth began.

    What do you think?

What do you call the Bible? It may not be a science text book, but it historically corect in MANY ways. why not about the creation of our universe?

And how is there proof for the Big Bang? Was someone there? That is proof. There actually is NO proof for the Big Bang, sorry iFMP...

In my opinion, the Bible is a fable. It was created to guide morality, and, in effect, control the masses. Don't get me wrong, it has some good lessons, that's just my feelings.

I believe in the Big Bang.

"Religion is the only thing in a person's life that they are willing to accept with virtually no proof at all."

Actually, it has no implications on our lives at all. God created the universe - I get up and go to uni. Big Bang created the universe - I get up and go to uni.

Its like.. a giant ant farm.

But, anyway. Have fun with this people.

    CORRECTION

Actually, it has no implications on our lives at all. God created the universe - I get up and go to uni, and then spend the rest of the day on flashkit. Big Bang created the universe - I get up and go to uni, and then spend the rest of the day on flashkit.

Flea was this on TV? I'd like to see it.

To me they are two separete arguments, how the universe was made and how the earth was made, so I don't get the point. both were made by what we call 'God'.

i think there is an equal amount of proof for creation. not that i believe in it. it boils down to marketing basically.

The inflation chaos theory is the thing to look at if you want to know more about the newest theorie of the big bang.

    Particle Physics and Inflationary Cosmology
From Anrei Linde in #40 of Physic Today

The fractal Dimension of the Inflationary Universe
    From M. Aryal and A. Vilenkin in Physics Letters B # 199

Whenever I look at a Religion vs Svience, it helps to broaden out a bit. Yes the Bible has one creation story, but there are so many other creation stories thought the world. The Native Americans have many, so did the Aztecs, Egyptians, Myans, Hindus, Greeks, Romans, ancient Japaneese, Norse, Celts, etc etc. They are all different and are/were believed my people all over the world. What do they have in common? They all basically say, a supreme being created the universe.

Now science has it's own explination of the universe's creation. Is it so wrong to believe that perhaps genneral meaning behind all these creation stories is correct as well and while it may have happened the way the scientists say it did, that perhaps even then there was a higher power at work?

Dang I thought the inflation chaos theory had to do with the fact that McDonalds Cheeseburgers used to be $.35, and now they are a buck.
