    Pixel fonts are bluring!!! Why????

I am using Supernova font from www.superlooper.de //No. 8 from top in there font list//
It works fine for one - two words, but if I'm writing sentences with it, it blurs.
Take a look at this example: http://intranet.bardelanimation.com/p/version3.html
    It blurs after 2 - 3 words
I am using font size 9px as they specified on web site.
It seems that I have same problem for other fonts too.
    Please help me!!!

THIS IS A HUGE LONGSHOT BUT...

Try using size 8. That's what every screen font I've used suggests.

<<< Hopefully less of an a**.

This font appears to work well only if quality is set to low, as is the problem with many so-called pixel fonts that are not optimized for use in Flash.

I also noticed that FFF_Galaxy blurs sometimes too. Why's that?

My best advice is to make sure that all pixel fonts in flash are used on a full pixel. Sometimes i trap myselfe to design/place them on a/y coordinates like this: 3.4 / 37.5. Instead make sure you use them on 3/37

However if your whole movie is not placed correctly you may end up guessing when the right pixel is to use.

Second make sure you use the right size of the fonts. Some designers make them (mimi) for 10pt. some smaller.

    Hope this helps

I'm affraid it is the font itself. Some font are indeed pixelfonts, but not suitable for flash. Do a search here on flashkit to find some other sites you can download pixelfont from.
    http://www.dafont.com is one of them.

    Hi there!

I've been having this problem myself lately as a client has requested small bitmap fonts for a site we're doing, and exactly the same problem.

The annoying part is that it looks just fine within flash itself, it's just when you publish it that it messes up.

Is there not a way to turn anti-aliasing off on the fonts?

I've never really looked into how flash handles the font shapes since I rarely use flash as a medium for displaying text in any quantity.

So I guess just make sure I line everything up to the pixel?

Here's the thing with fonts. Before you start a project, you choose the right font. Then you decide wether you will use the text in flash itself or wether you import your text through variables. Big issue, because when you put all the text in flash, you can use static text. Static text is automatically embedded by the player and therefore anti-aliased. Can you turn this off? Sure, you can select use device fonts and your text will look crisp as ever. Downside: your text is no longer embedded. Not really a problem when you have a very common system font, (found an excellent link for pc on that one) but a hughe problem when you have a font not everyone has installed on their system.
Second option is dynamic text. In this case the font is not automatically embedded so it will come out aliased (crisp). Same problem as I explained above, only you will be able to see your groovy font. You can embed the font manually for dynamic textfields, but that will turn the anti-aliasing back on.
Third option are the so called bitmapfonts, vectorfonts or, more commonly known as, pixelfonts.
Advantages? A pixelfont allows you to use dynamic (and static of course) text, embed it and it will still come out crisp.
Disadvantages? You have to take in considiration some specifications:
    * Pixelfonts always need to be used on the size they are developed for. In most cases this is pointsize 8, but there are lots of others.
    * The textfields always have to be placed on integer positions. Meaning x=100 and y=100 and not x=99.9 and y=100.1. These interger positions are relative to the main timeline. So watch out when you create buttons or movieclips. Always start putting the text on the main timeline an then build up buttons or movieclips. The same for loadMovie, it is always best to keep all the movie sizes the same when you load movies that use pixelfonts.

Final note. Pixelfonts are around for quite a while. It is very well possible that some pixelfonts are just not suitable for usage in flash. Before you start a project, always check out wether you have a suitable pixelfont or not!

Im having the same problems. Im beginning to think its the fonts themselves alot.

Is there anywhere where there is a list of fonts which ARE tried and tested in flash and work?

If not shouldnt we make one with it becoming such a common everyday designers problem. Its just becoming annoying really.

    Fonts

Fontsforflash.com is a good source for fonts. and with 16 Dollars they are affortable too. They just released some very nice once with URBAN and some others. Very readable. I also like the fonts from Joe Gillespiel. He created the nice font Mini 7.

Then there is miniml.com He has good tutorials how to use his font.

Not every pixel font it a flash font. Atomicmedia for instance creates some pixelfonts. I think they just call them so but they had for me no use in flash.

Go with the first 3 choises and buy one to test it. Support them and buy fonts

    Cheers,
    Dave

Still think a list of fonts will be useful to everyone might start to put a one together with the url of where it came from and by which artist and if free or not.

DarkSlaya: if you have any problems with FFF Galaxy, please send me a small example and I'll help you get it right. The font should ALWAYS be crisp.

three tried and true sources for flash-friendly pixel fonts are
    http://www.fontsforflash.com
    http://www.atomicmedia.net
    and
    http://www.miniml.com

all three make fonts developed especially to work for flash, so there should be no problem with any of their fonts.
